A Lifetime in Dance
Dance has been part of my life since my third birthday.
What began as a childhood passion grew into assisting my own teacher from the age of 12, studying dance at degree level, and eventually taking over the dance school where my own journey first began.
Over the last 28 years, I have taught dancers of different ages, abilities and experience levels. That experience has shaped the way I teach today: with structure, patience, adaptability and the understanding that every dancer learns differently.
Fresh Silhouette now focuses exclusively on adult dance training, helping adults build technique, strength, balance, coordination and confidence in a supportive, non-competitive environment.
Why I Teach Adults
While I have taught dancers of all ages throughout my career, working with adults has become my greatest passion.
Adults arrive in the studio for many different reasons. Some are returning to dance after years away. Some are trying ballet or tap for the very first time. Others are simply looking for a way to stay active, improve mobility, challenge themselves and continue learning.
What they all have in common is a genuine desire to progress.
I believe adult dancers deserve the same quality of training, attention and encouragement as any other dancer. Classes are designed to be structured and progressive, while remaining welcoming and adaptable to individual needs and experience levels.
There is no pressure to perform, compete or be perfect. The focus is on learning, improving and enjoying the process of developing new skills at your own pace.
What Makes Fresh Silhouette Different
At Fresh Silhouette, classes are designed to develop more than dance steps alone.
Alongside traditional ballet and tap training, classes may incorporate equipment such as resistance bands, yoga balls and blocks to improve strength, stability, balance and body awareness. These tools help dancers better understand how their bodies move, creating stronger foundations for technique and reducing the frustration that can come from simply repeating steps without understanding them.
Every exercise has a purpose. Rather than focusing solely on routines and choreography, training is structured to build the physical skills that support movement, helping dancers develop confidence, control and coordination over time.
Progress looks different for everyone. Some dancers may be working towards greater flexibility, others towards improved balance, stronger technique or simply feeling more comfortable in their own movement. Classes are adapted to support individual development whilst maintaining a clear and progressive structure.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is to help every dancer become stronger, more capable and more confident than they were when they started.
Our Training Philosophy
At Fresh Silhouette, we believe that dance is a lifelong skill that can be developed at any age.
Too often, adults assume they have missed their opportunity to learn, improve or return to dance. We believe the opposite. With the right guidance, structured training and a willingness to learn, meaningful progress can happen at any stage of life.
Our focus is on progression rather than perfection. Every dancer arrives with different experiences, strengths and goals, and success is measured by individual improvement rather than comparison with others.
Whether you're learning your first ballet position, mastering a new tap combination or returning to dance after many years away, each step forward matters. Small improvements build confidence, confidence encourages consistency, and consistency creates lasting progress.
The aim is not simply to become a better dancer, but to develop greater strength, balance, coordination, body awareness and confidence that can positively impact everyday life as well as dance training.
Fresh Silhouette provides adult dance training in Kirkcaldy for beginners, returning dancers and adults looking to continue developing their skills. Classes focus on ballet and tap technique, strength, balance, coordination and confidence through structured, progressive training in a supportive environment. Led by Michelle Winter, who has over 28 years of teaching experience, Fresh Silhouette helps adults continue learning, improving and enjoying movement at every stage of life.
